Math Challenge is a PTA-Sponsored Math Enrichment Program open to all Sycolin Creek Students!

Math Challenge is designed to give elementary students opportunities to sharpen their mathematical problem-solving skills. There will be 15 sets of challenges every other week starting in mid September and ending in May.

Throughout the challenges, the program covers problem solving strategies such as drawing a picture or model, making an organized list, looking for a pattern, working backward, and guess and check.

Here is how to participate:

  1. Go to our school Math Challenge page at https://www.mathinaction.org/sycolin-creek-elementary.html to find the current Math Challenge.
  2. Solve as many problems as you can (more than you are required to do 😊). We encourage you to discuss strategies and solutions with your parents and siblings – make it a family event!
  3. Submit your solutions by the due date. Turn in your solutions via Google Form – the link will be provided in our weekly updates.
  4. Solutions will be posted weekly to check your answers.
  5. Two of the Top Math Challengers for each grade will be highlighted in the Sycolin Creek Chronicle and PTA monthly update – check to see if you’re one of them!

We will keep track of your submissions and give recognition to students who complete at least 12 sets of challenges.

The program is completely free and no sign-up is necessary. This is a great opportunity for families to be involved and enjoy math through fun and engaging math problems. We encourage parents and siblings to get involved in discussing and solving them. Schedules and problem-solving strategies are available at www.mathinaction.org.

You may always turn in your submissions early, but submissions after the solutions are posted online will not be accepted without showing your work.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
